February, spring and autumn sesshin, and sesshin during the summer camps

A sesshin begins on the evening of the day of arrival with a simple dinner, an introduction for beginners (around 7.00 pm) and evening zazen (8.30 pm). The office is open for registration from 5.00 pm.
It ends with lunch on the final day at around 1.00 pm and, following a short tidying-up samu, at around 3.00 pm. If you have a long journey home, it is possible to leave earlier.
On the first two days, the day begins at 5.30 am. There are 9 zazen sessions spread throughout the day. Breakfast and lunch are taken in the dojo. (You will need a meal bowl for this.) The evening meal is taken in the fireplace room. (If necessary, breakfast and lunch can also be taken in the cafeteria.) Two to three hours of manual work are also included in the daily schedule. Evening zazen ends around 9.45 pm and quiet hours begin at 10.15 pm.
Essentials: A black kimono or dark, comfortable clothing, a zafu (Zen meditation cushion) and a seat cushion (zafuton or blanket) for zazen practice; samu-e or other suitable, weatherproof clothing (possibly an umbrella) and waterproof shoes for samu (work, including outdoors) ; slippers for use in the residential building; three bowls nested inside one another (if possible made of a material that does not make noise when used), cutlery and two napkins, wrapped in a cloth.
In both the rooms and the dormitories, the mattresses are fitted with protective covers. You will also need: a personal mattress cover, a pillow, a sleeping bag (even in the room) or, if necessary, a blanket and a duvet cover. In exceptional cases, bed linen can be hired from the office for €5. For participants who attend regularly, there is the option of storing blankets, bed linen, etc. in Schönböken.
